Troubleshoot Azure Stack TP1 xRPVM

I got some issue with Azure Stack during and some after a successful deployment. I wanted to quickly share these.

Issue:
During deployment of Azure Stack task failed at 114 – 119. Token expired is the error message.

Solution:
Check and make sure the time zone is -8 and you time is set to that time zone correctly.

Issue:
{“error”:{“code”:”GatewayTimeout”,”message”:”The gateway did not receive a response from ‘Microsoft.Compute’ within the specified time period.”}} {“error”:{“code”:”GatewayTimeout”,”message”:”The gateway did not receive a response from ‘Microsoft.Compute’ within the specified time period.”}}

OR:
Cannot select VM size in Portal

Solution:
Check all services on the Hyper-V host and xRPVM that are set to automatic are started. Reboot the xRPVM might resolve this issue as well.

Also check this announcement on MSDN forums on troubleshooting common issues.

    The 2 problems we had on these steps were:

    1- Our azure credentials had expired due to the host server rebooting for windows update overnight before the install completed. We downloaded the azure cmdlets using install-module azurerm and then used one of those cmdlets (sorry, forgot specifically which one) to re-login.

    2- Our NATVM (one of the many VMs created during the deployment) could not see the internet directly. We had to statically assign it an IP that could get straight out to the internet. Then all the other VMs can get to the internet through that one. At that point we got past 119.
